Weekly Writing Challenge 12: Write About Someone Who Gets Lost in the Mountains

Welcome to this week’s writing challenge prompt!

When characters get lost in nature, writers often have to heavily rely on their internal monologues. You won’t have other characters to spark conversations or instigate conflict (unless your story includes what happens after your character gets back to town—if they do at all).

This week, try writing about a character who gets lost in the mountains. Maybe they wander off a hiking trail, survive a plane crash, or ride their canoe too far downstream.

However they get lost, use this writing challenge prompt to practice writing first-person narration that relies mostly on the protagonist’s internal monologue. You can also try your hand at themes like contemplating what death really means or finding what really matters for your protagonist as they contemplate the life they’re potentially losing by remaining lost.
